It is always gratifying to find booklets
produced by companies that in their own words tell how they were
contributing to the winning of World War Two. "Fighting Trucks" by
Diamond T is an excellent example. While there is always a bit of
self-promotion of the company in these types of booklets, it also gives
the reader an inside look at how a company like Diamond T saw itself in
providing needed military goods for the war effort. "Fighting
Trucks" also contains many factory photos to which only the company had
access. This is an excellent retrospective look at a company that
no longer exists and for which there are few records.
"Fighting Trucks," published in May 1943, is very
rare. The one shown below is the only copy I have seen in the
several years I have been researching companies in World War Two.
This copy was found in the archives of the R.E. Olds Transportation
Museum in Lansing, MI. Not only is the R.E. Olds Museum one of the
premiere historical vehicle museums in the United States, but it also
has an extensive archive and research center. I highly recommend a
visit to the R.E. Olds Museum by anyone interested in history or the
automotive industry. It has the largest collection of vintage Reo
and Oldsmobile vehicles in the country.
I thank the R.E. Olds Transportation Museum for allowing me to share
"Fighting Trucks" with my readers.
