Chrysler built 250 T23 medium tanks from
November 1943 to December 1944 at the Detroit Tank Arsenal. It is
powered by a Ford GAN V8 engine driving an electrical generator.
The generator provided electrical power for two traction motors.
There are three examples remaining, all in the

This photo shows the size of the M36 to the
left of the T23, and the M26 to the right. The T23 weighed in at
34 tons which is comparable to the M4 Sherman series tanks. Note
the difference in heights between the M36 which is based on the M4
Sherman and the T23. The T23 has a definitely lower profile.
An American medium tank with the lower profile of the T23 would have
made it a harder target to aquire and then hit. The Author's

This shows the sizes difference between T23
medium tank, and the heavy M26. Author's photo.
